BEING PREPARED WILL HELP YOU ENJOY THE RIDE.
You must wear a properly fastened ANSI or Snell-approved helmet on all Major Taylor DFW rides.
Your bicycle should be in good mechanical condition and you must know basic maintenance including how to change a flat.
Wear clothing suitable for the day's weather conditions. Cycling shorts or tights, long sleeve jerseys and cycling gloves will help you stay relaxed during the ride.
Drink plenty of water before the ride. Bring water or a sports drink with you on the ride and drink during the ride.
Bring energy foods or dried fruit with you on longer rides. Many rides do not include a meal stop.
Carry at least two tire levers, a spare tube, a patch kit, and a pump or CO2 cartridges.
Bring lights for use on rides that occur during times of darkness.
Arrive early to allow time to get you and your bike ready. Ride start times are departure times not arrival times. All rides leave on time.
Choose a ride easier and shorter than you think you can ultimately handle. You won't enjoy struggling to keep up with a ride that's too fast for you, nor will the group enjoy waiting for you.
It's a good idea to introduce yourself to the ride leader at the start.
Ride Leaders will be there to answer questions and ease you into the joys of group riding. We want you to have fun, to gain confidence, and to improve.
Eat a good meal at least half an hour before the ride.
